Falmouth Extension
We are delighted to announce the recent approval of our single-storey side and rear extension for our Falmouth project. This development significantly enhances the dwelling’s functionality and spatial quality while respecting the character of the existing building and its it’s sensitive nature being in an AONB. The design concept revolves around creating a harmonious balance between traditional Cornish vernacular architecture and contemporary living requirements.
Existing property in current state
The extension comprises a new garage to the side of the property, addressing the client's need for additional storage. To the rear, a spacious open-plan living area is created, forming a light-filled and versatile heart of the home. This configuration optimizes the property’s orientation, maximizing natural daylight and establishing a strong connection with the garden.
The extension is designed to be a subtle yet impactful intervention, with a pitched roof matching the existing building's profile to maintain the property's character. The exterior envelope is proposed to be clad in a combination of traditional Cornish stone and render, ensuring visual compatibility with the local vernacular.
Internally, the open-plan living space provides a flexible and multifunctional area, seamlessly integrating kitchen, dining, and lounge functions. Large glazing panels visually expand the interior, allowing the natural beauty of the Cornish setting to take center stage.

Particular attention has been paid to thermal performance and energy efficiency. The extension incorporates high levels of insulation, energy-efficient glazing, and sustainable technologies to minimize environmental impact. Underfloor heating is proposed to provide comfortable and efficient warmth throughout the year.
The approved extension for the Falmouth property represents a successful collaboration between client, ourselves and the planners. By carefully integrating practical considerations such as garage accommodation with the creation of a spacious and inviting living environment, the project enhances the dwelling’s overall quality and creates a harmonious relationship with its coastal surroundings.
