West Hampstead Mews
We are currently working on an exciting project to transform a mews house in West Hampstead. The scheme involves a comprehensive reconfiguration of the ground floor and a substantial roof extension to create additional living accommodation.
Due to the property's location within this designated area, we are preparing a comprehensive Design and Access Statement (DAS) in addition to the planning application.
The existing conservatory, which provided limited year-round use, will be replaced with a full-width single-storey extension. This new space will offer a contemporary and flexible living area, seamlessly connecting the interior with the garden through large expanses of glazing. The ground floor layout will be carefully considered to optimize space and functionality, creating a modern and inviting environment.
The Design and Access Statement will provide a detailed explanation of how the proposed extension respects the conservation area's character, demonstrates the project's positive impact on the local environment, and addresses any potential concerns. Through careful design and sensitive integration, we aim to create a modern and sustainable home that enhances the character of West Hampstead while meeting the client's needs.

To maximise the potential of the property, a mansard roof clad in contemporary zinc will be constructed, replacing the existing roof. This architectural intervention will create two additional bedrooms on the upper floor, significantly increasing the property's accommodation. The mansard form is carefully proportioned to respect the character of the surrounding buildings while offering improved head height and natural light to the new bedrooms.
The project places a strong emphasis on sustainable design principles. Energy-efficient materials, advanced insulation, and careful orientation will contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. The integration of skylights into the mansard roof will enhance natural daylighting, minimizing the need for artificial lighting.
This project represents a thoughtful and innovative approach to maximizing the potential of a mews house. By combining contemporary design elements with careful consideration of the building's context, the extension will create a modern and comfortable home that enhances the client's lifestyle.

We made sure to leave the front facade untouched, preserving the beautiful brick corner detail!
We are currently undertaking a full building regulations package with Structural Calculations included for this project.
If you have a similar extension project we would love to hear from you and work together to unlock your site’s potential.
